Ichi Sushi & Ramen is an absolute gem! From the moment I took my first bite, I felt like I was back in one of the amazing restaurants I've visited in Japan. The sushi and rolls are crafted with incredibly fresh ingredients and taste absolutely excellent. Each piece was a perfect balance of flavor and texture. But the ramen... the ramen is simply amazing. The broth is rich and complex, the noodles have the perfect chew, and the toppings are generous.
Overview
Walking into Ichi Sushi & Ramen for the first time felt like stepping into a neighborhood spot that already knew what it was doing. I stopped by on a cold evening after work, and the dining room was buzzing in that comfortable way-families sharing rolls, couples leaning over steaming bowls, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. Located at 700 N Country Rd, Setauket- East Setauket, NY 11733, United States, the restaurant sits in an easy-to-find stretch that locals clearly treat as a go-to for Japanese comfort food.
The menu balances variety and focus, which is something chefs often recommend for quality control. According to culinary studies referenced by the Japanese Culinary Academy, restaurants that specialize in a defined range of dishes tend to maintain better consistency and ingredient freshness. That philosophy shows up here. The sushi section covers classics like tuna and salmon rolls, but also leans into specialty combinations with layered textures-crispy elements against soft rice, clean fish paired with subtle sauces. During one visit, I watched the sushi chef prepare rolls methodically, rinsing rice multiple times before seasoning it, a process widely recognized as essential for proper texture and flavor balance.
Ramen is clearly a centerpiece, and it shows in both preparation and taste. Broth is the backbone of any good ramen, and food science research published by the National Institutes of Health explains how long-simmered stocks extract collagen and amino acids, creating depth and mouthfeel. The tonkotsu-style broth here arrives creamy without being heavy, suggesting hours of careful simmering rather than shortcuts. Noodles have that springy bite ramen lovers look for, and toppings like marinated egg and slow-braised pork belly taste intentionally prepared, not mass-produced.
One detail that stood out during repeat visits was consistency. Reviews often praise flavor, but consistency is what builds trust. The CDC notes that temperature control and ingredient handling are key factors in food safety, and everything here-from chilled sashimi to hot soup-arrives at proper temperature. That attention to process matters, especially for raw fish. I’ve spoken with a local diner who eats here weekly and says the sushi quality has stayed steady for years, which aligns with many online reviews describing it as reliable rather than trendy.
Service plays into the overall experience without trying too hard. Staff members explain menu items clearly, especially to first-timers unfamiliar with ramen styles or sushi terminology. When I asked about spice levels, the server broke down the difference between chili oil heat and pepper-based spice, which reflects genuine product knowledge rather than scripted upselling. Hospitality experts from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration often highlight informed service as a driver of repeat business, and that principle seems well understood here.
Prices land comfortably within what most East Setauket diners expect, especially considering portion sizes. A single ramen bowl can easily stand as a full meal, while sushi plates are sized for sharing. There are limitations, of course. Seating can feel tight during peak dinner hours, and parking gets busy, which is common for popular locations along N Country Road. Still, turnover is smooth, and waits rarely feel excessive.
What keeps people coming back isn’t novelty but dependability. This is the kind of place you choose when you want something warm, familiar, and well-made without overthinking it. The combination of a thoughtfully built menu, careful preparation methods, and steady service creates a dining experience that feels grounded. Reviews across platforms echo that sentiment, often using words like bold comfort and consistent quality, and those descriptions hold up in real life.

I’ve tried almost every ramen on the menu, and every single one was delicious — never a disappointment. The sashimi is always fresh, and the plating is beautifully done. Consistently great quality and a place I always look forward to coming back to.
Fairly priced menu with lunch and dinner specials that are a great deal of food for the price. All rolls and meals we got had great portions and delicious. The dinner bento boxes come with shumai, rice, a meat of choice, California roll, miso soup, and the garden salad all for $19-$22. Service is just okay, may have to wave someone down but everyone is nice and helpful. During rush hour parking may be limited. Would definitely come back and would recommend coming for lunch based on the discounted special prices!
My favorite ramen place in Suffolk County! They have other dishes but I haven’t tried them. The broth is so good the flavors are layered and the consistency isn’t just water and the eggs are always boiled right (my favorite). I get the spicy miso and chicken ramen the meat isn’t too fatty the chasu is soft and the chicken is tasty with a ginger kind of undertone! The Thai tea isn’t powdery or overly sweet as well (it pairs so well with the spicy food)! I can’t speak much on the sushi but my partner says it’s “bomb!” Their favorite is the spicy tuna roll. The servers are always so sweet and for a smaller place it doesn’t feel too stuffy! I highly recommend!
Our Ramen soups were delicious, fresh, affordable, good portions and a decent variety of options on the menu. Their ramen is always welcome on these windy cold nights. The only criticism I have of the restaurant is that they should trim the bushes around the sign by the road because they basically cover the sign and it's easy to miss the restaurant
Ichi Sushi is a charming little gem that truly feels like home from the moment you step inside. This cozy and inviting restaurant offers a warm ambiance, making it perfect for an intimate dining experience or a casual meal. I opted for their bento box, which was simply delightful. The meal came with a perfectly balanced miso soup and a fresh, zesty ginger salad—an incredible deal for just about $20. The bento box itself was generous, filled with a variety of delicious flavors that felt thoughtfully prepared. To complement our meal, we enjoyed a crisp, chilled sake that paired beautifully with the food. What made the experience even more memorable was the service. Our server was incredibly sweet, attentive, and wore a genuine smile throughout our visit. Her positive energy added an extra touch of warmth to an already lovely experience. If you’re looking for a small, hidden sushi spot with great food and an equally great vibe, Ichi Sushi is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
2404 simple roadside joy. Ramen is decent, loaded with meat/veggies. Neither Tonkotsu or Veggie is too salty. Sashimi is thick cut and fresh (I didn’t realize it doesn’t come with rice but I am low carb). Lunch specials are of very good value. Thanks for the quick food and friendly service :)
